Tragic Plane Crash in São Paulo State Claims Lives of All 62 Onboard



In a devastating incident, a plane crash in São Paulo state, Brazil, has resulted in the deaths of all 62 individuals on board. The twin-engine turboprop, operating under the Voepass airline, was en route from Cascavel in Paraná to Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo city when it went down on Friday in the town of Vinhedo.



►Details of the Crash


The aircraft, an ATR 72-500, was carrying 58 passengers and four crew members. Eyewitness footage and reports describe a harrowing scene as the plane spiraled downwards before crashing. Initial uncertainty about the number of people on board was later clarified by Voepass, which confirmed that there were no survivors.


The plane crashed in a residential area, but miraculously, no one on the ground was injured. However, the crash did damage one home in a local condominium complex. The incident caused significant fires and left behind smoking wreckage amidst a neighborhood of houses.


►Official Responses and Investigation


Brazil's President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has expressed his condolences to the victims' families and friends, while São Paulo's state Governor, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, has declared three days of mourning. The authorities have recovered the flight recorders, and ATR, the aircraft manufacturer, has pledged to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.


The plane, built in 2010, was reported to be in good operating condition with valid airworthiness certificates. The crew members were all properly licensed. The Uopeccan Cancer Hospital in Cascavel has confirmed that two of its trainee doctors were among the passengers.

Local residents witnessed the crash and described the horrifying experience. Felipe Magalhaes recounted seeing the plane spinning as it fell, while Nathalie Cicari described hearing a loud noise and seeing the plane's erratic movement.


►Past and Present


This crash is the deadliest in Brazil since 2007, when a TAM Express plane crashed in São Paulo's Congonhas airport, claiming 199 lives. President Lula has paid tribute to the victims, expressing profound sadness over the tragedy.


►Ongoing Investigation


The cause of the crash remains unknown. Voepass CEO Eduardo Busch emphasized that the investigation is underway, focusing on communications between the pilot and air traffic control. The aircraft's black boxes have been retrieved and are being analyzed to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary recovery efforts have identified the pilot and co-pilot among the 24 bodies retrieved so far.



As the investigation continues, authorities are working to identify all victims, with the recovery team facing challenges due to the extensive damage from the crash and subsequent fire.
